Phew! What a weekend. After two days and nights of grilling, beaching and mad dancing in Fire Island, Lauren and I actually made it back to Brooklyn in one piece on Sunday. 

I immediately set off to pick up my pup from his extended play date with our good friend Kara and her own pup (my dog god-daughter) Cayenne, while Lauren was able to go home, shower and look ridiculously presentable when we met up afterwards to indulge in some Korean tacos from Dokebi. 

Note: this is why I take the photos; at this point I was still un-showered and seriously not caring about my general lack of hygiene.

Divine Damask

New York weather has been stormy and on-and-off the past few days - think 90 degrees, then pouring - which makes it almost impossible to dress appropriately, no matter how hard you try.

My solution? Brave the storm with some sturdy ankle boots (I love the hidden wedge on these ones), a  sheer top, and a light pair of jeans. Micol and I are obsessed with these David Kahn jeans right now... so obsessed actually that we both got a pair for ourselves. The pattern and fit are incredible, and they're so lightweight they almost feel like leggings. The day we mistakenly both wear them out should prove to be a hilarious one...

One of the best parts of living in the south side of Williamsburg is having quick access to some of our favorite restaurants that are on the other side of the bridge: Diner, Marlow and Sons, Dressler and now our new, favorite, Vietnamese roof-top spot, Bia.

Lauren and I had both heard of the bar awhile back when it first opened, but it wasn't until we ran into her neighbor in the elevator who had just come back from an amazing meal (they just started serving food) that we were inspired to check it out. We took her neighbors advice ("Go now!") literally, so pretty much an hour after hearing his rave reviews we were on our way.

Consensus? They were sadly out of many of their signature dishes, but what we did order was delicious. Paired with roof-top relaxing and top-notch drinks we'll definitely have to make a return visit to try some of their faves.

The weather in NYC has been pretty on and off lately, but this past weekend the clouds managed to part just long enough for Micol to throw her housewarming luau party, complete with tiki torches, a wickedly strong tropical punch, colorful rafts perfect for keeping afloat while sipping cocktails, and leis aplenty. Even Gideon, her new pooch, came dressed for the occasion in a blue garland that of course matched the one his mom was wearing. 

While Micol and I weren't sporting much besides bathing suits, our friend Kara showed up in a Pucci-inspired, see-through coverup (kind of like this one) that I was obsessed with, while another close friend Yanina donned a bold, bright pink maxi that gave off the perfect tropical vibe. Bright colors at a luau? Perfection...

PS - I made Micol include her killer punch recipe below, mostly because I want to replicate it asap, but also for your benefit if you feel like getting down. Enjoy! But don't say we didn't warn you...

Micol's XXX Tropical Punch:

1 bottle of Bacardi Light Rum

1/2 bottle of Myers Dark Rum

1 large can of pineapple juice

1/2 a bottle of orange juice

1 8oz can of coconut water

1 8oz can of mango juice

lime juice to taste

Last night, Lauren and I were invited to an Urban Outfitter's denim event for BDG denim. As we're huge fans of both brands, and of Twin Shadow who happened to be DJing, it was a no brainer for us to attend. 

Despite the fact that there was no AC, UO did everything else right. First stop: choosing a pair of jeans. Lauren decided upon a deep red pair while I went with classic indigo. Then we hit up two tables they set up that allowed you to customize the jeans as you wanted (think studs, glitter, paint, bleach). Lauren and I both chose to bleach the hell out of our jeans to give them more of a distressed look. With nothing to do but wait for them to dry we grabbed some drinks, took some pics on the Bowery, stuffed our faces with Korean tacos from the Korilla taco truck outside, and danced to the sweet tunes curtesy of Twin Shadow.

Night Bright

Micol and I are always looking for ways to switch things up on the blog. Whether shooting in novel locations and at new angles, or collaborating with other brands and photographers, the most incredible things seem to result when we take chances and get a little experimental. 

Inspired by some of the nighttime shots we've seen in the past from the likes of Inez and Vinoodh, Greg Kadel and Guy Aroch, we've been talking about shooting at night for awhile now. But we never worked up the guts to do it until this past weekend, after we'd had a few drinks with some friends before heading out to dance at Brooklyn's local gay club Sugarland. Talk about a little liquid courage!

Normally you'd be hard-pressed to find me in a form-fitting minidress like this one. But the color and cut-outs had me sprung, the material is super-soft, stretchy and comfortable, and what better place to wear an outfit like this than in the company of gay men? At least, I think my boyfriend was relieved.

On Friday, Lauren and I were invited to take a peek at the upcoming fall collections of several brands at the Bollare showroom, just a stone's throw away from Madison Square Park. Once we got over our shock at the sea of chunky knit sweaters and heavy leather jackets (is Fall really around the corner?) we couldn't wait to dive into the racks to check out the styles and trends we can expect to see on the streets in just a few months time. 

The bright patterns we've all been rocking this spring and summer transition to fall with quilted fabrics and deep, rich jewel tone colors, meaning your black and grey Fall go-tos are going to have stiff competition. Lauren fell in love with these Lolita-esque shades from Quay Eyeware, while I couldn't take my eyes off the MAXFOWLES quilted orange bomber jacket shown above. The gold zipper detailing is exquisite.

Micol is obsessed with this band called Future Islands, so when she found out they were playing a show in Brooklyn the other night it was imperative that we score tix. Little did we know that the nearby venue they performed at, Death by Audio, was a low-ceilinged, two-room, un-airconditioned, basement-like space. For this reason, we also could not have foreseen that by the end of the show everyone would be drenched in sweat and beer. We're talking drenched.

Had I known what I know now, I definitely would not have worn anything more than cutoffs and a tank top to the show. But I decided to wear out this outfit at the time. Smart. Let's just say, every item needs to be dry-cleaned immediately... but it was totally worth it. 

Oh and props to anyone who knows and loves the movie that this tank references... I think it's one of my all-time favorite flicks.

So I feel like I did warn everyone when I posted awhile back (er, 5 days ago...) that Lauren and I had fully embraced the crop top trend. Because this week Lauren again finds herself keeping cool in her fave, new, 90s inspired flower-print crop top and a pair of high-waisted denim shorts. I love that she paired the look with a pale pink fedora and her go-to 80%20 platform wedges.

We haven't been up to too much these past couple of weeks outside of finding large bodies of water in which to immerse ourselves and standing in front of any type of wind machine, glasses of rose in hand. Actually, I did bike to Lauren's the other day, but the breeze resulting from my speed did not offset the effort it required to pedal... so the adventures of the Southside Heartbreakers might have to take a break.

PS. We can't really believe it but, woke up this morning to find our last post on the front page of the NY Times Fashion and Style section. Dreams = Realized!
